Yesterday, violent supporters of President Trump breached the US Capitol complex leading to significant damage, injuries, and multiple deaths. The chaotic and dangerous scene also halted the congressional certification of the Electoral College.
In response, Senator Greg Clausen (DFL-Apple Valley) released the following statement:
“Yesterday’s assault on the U.S. Capitol was a dangerous and unprecedented attempt to undermine the results of our free and fair election process while placing the lives of thousands of people at risk. This was an attack on the essential values of our democracy and an attempt to disrupt the functions of government. Those who participated should be held accountable. As elected officials, we have a duty at the local, state, and federal levels to protect our democracy and the safety of our communities. Each of us swore an oath to defend our Constitution and our democracy. Together we must stand up and reject this negligent behavior and attempt to undermine our democracy.”
