Senator David Tomassoni Says Public Utilities Commission “Got it Right”

The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (PUC) Thursday voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of need to Enbridge Energy Partners, LLC with certain conditions. In response to the PUC’s ruling, Senate David Tomassoni (DFL-Chisholm) issued the following statement.

“I am pleased with the PUC’s decision to unanimously approve the Line 3 replacement project after a years-long impartial vetting and public comment process. New infrastructure is needed to safely transport crude oil to refineries that produce fuel for cars, freight, and airplanes as the old line is 50 years old and needs to be replaced. We waited too long to replace the I-35W bridge. We need to replace the old line now. Thousands of skilled tradespeople are going to build this pipeline and billions of dollars will be invested in Minnesota. The approval of this project comes with guarantees that address concerns about taxpayer liabilities in the event of a spill. The PUC got it right.”
