Senator Franzen votes for COVID-19 Workers’ Compensation for First Responders and Health Care Workers

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Senator Melisa Franzen, DFL-Edina, voted in support of the legislation to deliver workers’ compensation benefits to health care and public safety workers who contract COVID-19 in the line of duty. The legislation provides a presumption that if these workers contract COVID-19, they did so during their employment and are covered by workers’ compensation.

“Every day our first responders and health care workers are on the front lines. They put themselves in harm’s way and are exposed to COVID-19 when they show up to help the sick and the vulnerable during this pandemic. We recognize that we need to provide them with access to workers’ compensation if they contract this lethal virus while on the job. I am pleased to vote in favor of this legislation to honor their commitment and show appreciation for their sacrifice.”

Governor Walz had indicated that he will sign the legislation. A copy of the legislation can be found here.
