Senator Hoffman supports extending workers compensation benefits to critical workers

St. Paul, Minn.— Senator John Hoffman (DFL-Champlin) supports extending workers compensation benefits to workers on the front line of keeping Minnesota safe who contract COVID-19 as a result of their duties. These important workers include first responders, police officers, firefighters, paramedics, health care workers, emergency medical technicians, assistive staff employed in a health care, home care, or long-term care setting– including PCA’s, and workers providing childcare to essential workers.

In response to the passage of the legislation today, Sen. Hoffman issued the statement below:

“I am proud to stand with these indispensable workers who are on the front lines of protecting Minnesotans. These brave men and women deserve to be covered under Minnesota’s workers compensation program if they become ill on the job because of exposure to the novel coronavirus. Thank you to all of these people who are risking their safety and the safety of their families to serve us. It was the right thing to do to protect them and their families from a loss of income because of illness directly related to COVID-19.
