On Wednesday night, during a joint meeting of the House and Senate Higher Education committees, Duluthian Dave McMillan was nominated to be the next University of Minnesota Regent representing the 8th Congressional District.
Dave McMillan is the Executive Vice President of Minnesota Power and Sr. Vice President of Marketing, Regulatory, Legislative and Public Affairs and Rates for ALLETE, and has been with the company for 20 years.
Dave is deeply connected to the University of Minnesota system; he received his undergraduate degree from UMD, and earned his law degree at the University of Minnesota law school. He is the third of four generations in his family to attend the U of M. As an executive at Minnesota Power, and through his broad and varied board experiences, Dave has a deep understanding of the communities, businesses, industries and resources of the Eighth District.
Two of the four Regent finalists were from Duluth. The other was Bill Burns, who garnered the support of an informal caucus of the House and Senate members in the 8th District last week.
The election of the Regents will take place on Monday, at 4:30 in the afternoon, in a joint convention of the House and Senate.
“I appreciate the willingness of both Dave and Bill to put themselves through a very grueling and political selection process,” said Senator Reinert. “I am thrilled that barring anything unusual happening on the floor on Monday the next Regent to represent the 8th Congressional District will be from Duluth.”
