St. Paul, Minn. – Early Wednesday morning, the Minnesota Senate passed its Omnibus Tax and Omnibus Health and Human Services Bill. In response, Senator Erik Simonson (DFL-Duluth) issued the following statement:
“Hardworking Minnesotans deserve access to high-quality health care and a progressive tax system works for them. Unfortunately, if both bills were to become law, they would move Minnesota further away from these goals. This bill does nothing for the Working Family Credit or child care assistance and would take funding from our public schools. While it does include the Duluth Sales Tax and TIF provisions, it fails working Minnesotans.
As a strong supporter for universal health care coverage for Minnesota, I am deeply disappointed in the Senate GOP’s deep cuts to vital programs for working Minnesotans, and their proposed reforms that would only put high-quality healthcare further out of reach for our citizens. We can and must do better to deliver a budget that works for every Minnesotan, and that puts the needs of working Minnesotans over the wealthy.”
