Senator Tomassoni and Representative Melin Announce Minnesota State Arts Board Legacy …

Senator David Tomassoni (DFL-Chisholm) and Representative Carly Melin (DFL- Hibbing) announced today two important arts grants were awarded to Northern Minnesota from the Minnesota State Arts Board. The Northern Lights Music Festival in Aurora will receive a $22,000 grant and the Minnesota Discovery Center in Chisholm will receive a $13,200 grant.
The Northern Lights Music Festival’s Chamber Players will tour three professional chamber music concerts in Duluth, Ely, and Virginia, and will tour the fully staged production with full orchestra and chorus of Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci to Chisholm and Ely. “Our communities welcome and will greatly enjoy the three chamber music concerts,” said Sen. Tomassoni. “These productions will be a great opportunity for families to enjoy professional chamber music close to home.”
The Minnesota Discovery Center and the Range Fiber Arts Guild are partnering to present a six-month art exhibit featuring interactive displays of the rug weaving process, weaving’s influence on regional art, and weaving’s significance to the history and culture of the region. “We have a rich culture on the Iron Range and this is a great way to share it,” stated Rep. Melin. “I am pleased the Minnesota Discovery Center project rose to the top in the grant process. The exhibit will provide creative experiences for Minnesotans of all ages.”
Both grants were made under the Arts Board’s Arts Tour Minnesota grant program. The Arts Board selected 42 grantees from a pool of 72 applicants from across the state, to receive awards. The Arts Tour Minnesota program is designed to give Minnesotans greater access to high-quality artists and arts organizations, regardless of geography.
