Senator Tomassoni Announces October 8 Event at Hibbing Community College on State of Child Care
Senator David Tomassoni (DFL-Chisholm) today announced that the State Senate Child Care Working Group, of which he is a member and is chaired by Senator Bill Weber, will meet on October 8th in Hibbing to discuss the state of child care in Minnesota, including access, availability, and challenges facing providers and parents.
Sen. Tomassoni and the bipartisan Child Care Working Group will meet Monday afternoon for informational tours at the Iron Range Tykes Learning Center and Kiddy Karousel Childcare Center. Then at 6 p.m., Sen. Tomassoni and his colleagues will host a public forum at Hibbing Community College in the Special Dining Room to gather additional public comment. The event is free and open to all members of the public.
“I invite members of the public to take advantage of this opportunity to meet with a bipartisan group of elected officials to tell their stories regarding their experiences with child care,” said Sen. Tomassoni. “We realize that child care is an issue that needs to be addressed more thoroughly, especially in rural areas. We are hearing similar stories from all corners of the state and while one size may not fit all, we want to be part of the solution. Receiving input from the people on the front lines is our goal and it’s why we are convening a public hearing in Hibbing.”
It is the fourth such meeting held so far by the Child Care Working Group.
