St. Paul, Minn. – Earlier today action was taken by the Minnesota Department of Health and the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry to shut down operations of Water Gremlin immediately. Senator Chuck Wiger (DFL-Maplewood) applauded the state’s actions.
“Despite repeated efforts to remedy the unacceptable levels of exposure faced by employees and the surrounding community, Water Gremlin has failed in its job, and violated the public trust for too long,” said Senator Wiger. “Today’s action is not only necessary, but vital to the health and wellbeing of our community. With the closure of Water Gremlin in place, the Legislature must focus in the 2020 Legislative Session in addressing other changes necessary to hold Water Gremlin accountable and to prevent future incidents.
Since the initial news of TCE exposure from Water Gremlin was revealed this spring, Senator Wiger has championed efforts to ban the use of the chemical and to implement stronger regulatory measures to prevent these incidents.
