State Government Conference Committee takes testimony

The State Government Finance Committee has met three times this week but has failed to come to agreement on how to fund the many government agencies, boards, and commissions that keep the state running and provide critical services to Minnesotans. Over 50 stakeholders testified at the conference committee on Tuesday, a majority of whom had grave concerns with the cuts to operating budgets included in the Republican Senate’s proposal. Arbitrary cuts to departments abound in the Republican budget for state government without specifics on where agencies should be reducing services, even though the Senate budget proposes to hold its own budget harmless and even increase it by millions of dollars. The DFL House proposal makes targeted investments to reduce wait times for Minnesotans and ensure customers receive the services they expect from state government. (SF 2227)
