Abraham Lincoln once said, “What I want is to get done what the people desire to have done, and the question for me is how to find that out exactly.” What was true then, is still true today; our government is only as good as its ability to connect with the people. Luckily, getting connected is only a click or a call away.
One useful way legislators stay in touch is by holding town hall meetings. On February 5th, Sen. Wiger, Congresswoman Betty McCollum, Rep. Leon Lillie and Rep. Nora Slawik will be holding town hall meeting at the Maplewood Nature Center (2659 East 7th Street, Maplewood, MN 55119) from 9:30am to 10:30am. Anyone interested in discussing the 2011 Legislative Session is welcome and encouraged to join them.
You can also contact Sen. Wiger’s office (296-6820), his home phone (770-0283), send him an email (firstname.lastname@example.org), write a letter (117 State Office building, St. Paul, MN 55155) and of course, you can visit his office in the State Office Building.
Throughout session, you can keep in touch with everything happening at the Capitol through the Senate’s website (www.senate.leg.state.mn.us). The site will give you access to Senator profiles, bill logs, committee schedules and much more.
