Honoring and Supporting Veterans

Honoring and supporting our veterans remains a top priority for the DFL. Once again, the Senate passed a bipartisan Veterans Affairs and Military Affairs omnibus bill to continue the work of investments made in 2023.

Meals on Wheels Pilot Program

The 2023 Veterans Affairs budget included funding for a pilot program with Metro Meals on Wheels. In 2024, the funds were made available through fiscal year 2025 to have the maximum impact in our veteran community. (SF774)

Referral Bonuses

The adjutant general now has the authority to establish a referral bonus program for the Minnesota National Guard. This program will provide bonuses to those who are able to successfully recruit a new individual to the National Guard. (SF4429)

Record Access

Veterans and a surviving spouse or next of kin are able to obtain records—such as a birth, death, marriage, divorce or veteran discharge record—without a fee. This has been a barrier to county veteran service officers who may assist veterans or their families with accessing records. The Veterans Affairs and Military Affairs omnibus bill amends current statute to allow county veteran service officers to access these records without a fee. (SF3452)

University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum

The Higher Education omnibus bill included a provision allowing disabled veterans free access to the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. This was a bipartisan effort and will allow our veterans to spend time with one another or their friends and family in the arboretum in Chaska. (SF4454)
