A Sales Tax Exemption for Students

Students would be able to save money in purchasing school supplies thanks to legislation heard this week. The bill would expand current sales tax exemptions for materials that are used in the course of study to include charts, models, and various art supplies. This would add upon current exemptions that include tools like instructional CDs. Additionally, if the course of study is necessary for a degree or certification, any equipment, tools, or supplies required during the course of study would be covered under this exemption. This exemption removes a financial burden on students for materials they must have as they work toward receiving a degree or certification and getting a job. (S.F. 103)
