Senator Kathy Sheran (DFL – Mankato) and the Health and Human Services Policy Division will hear from the Department of Human Services for an update on issues related to DHS Direct Care and Treatment, as well as the Olmstead Plan and Jensen Settlement. Media outlets and the public are welcome to attend.
The committee meeting is set to take place from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Friday, Dec. 5 in Room 15 in the State Capitol. The update on issues related to DCT would have an hour total and the review of Olmstead and Jensen would have one hour total. Within each of those time blocks will be a 10-minute presentation on each item and then 20 minutes of questions on each item.
The purpose of the hearing is to familiarize committee members with state operated services, as well as what is going on at the Minnesota Security Hospital (MSH) and the action DHS is taking to work on issues there.
Update on issues related to DHS Direct Care and Treatment (formerly State-Operated Services)
- Brief review of the Conditional License Order for the MN Security Hospital (MSH) and the progress DHS has made to comply with the requirements.
- Brief review of the OSHA citation to MSH and an update on what DHS is doing to improve workplace safety in response to the citation.
Olmstead Plan & Jensen Settlement
- Brief overview of the Olmstead Plan and what action the state is taking to implement the plan.
- Brief overview of the Jensen Settlement and what DHS is doing to meet the requirements of the settlement.
“As we approach the 2015 Legislative Session, it is imperative that members are brought to speed on matters that have occurred since last session – specifically new requirements for MSH, the implementation of the Olmstead Plan, and details on the Jensen Settlement,” said Sen. Sheran. “This meeting will cover a myriad of issues and concepts pertaining to state operated services that legislators and the public alike should understand.”
