ST. PAUL, Minn. — October is Farm to School Month, to highlight Minnesota’s successful Farm to School program and the month Senate Agriculture Chair Aric Putnam (DFL-St. Cloud) released the following statement:
“I’m incredibly proud that in Minnesota, we support a robust Farm to School program that creates an opportunity for schools and child care centers across Minnesota to purchase local produce, meat, & dairy directly from Minnesota farm families,” said Senator Putnam. “Through this program, our students receive healthy, high-quality food that helps them learn and grow while providing a financial spark for local farms. The food grown by Minnesota Farmers is the foundation this state is built on, and the students of Minnesota are the foundation our future is built on. I am so glad that in our state, we work to bring those two foundations together.”
Over the last biennium, Minnesota has allocated $4.8 million for the Farm to School grant program from the Senate Agriculture Budget to connect local producers to schools and expanded the grant pool to include in-home child care facilities.
