ATV funds will help build Voyageur trail system

The Environment and Natural Resources Finance Division heard a bill this week that appropriates $150,000 from the state’s all-terrain vehicle (ATV) account for a grant to the City of Orr to begin developing a plan for connecting ATV trails in the Cook/Orr/Echo Lake area of the state. The committee approved an amendment that provides an additional $50,000 from the ATV account for a connecting trail to the Iron Range Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Area. Supporters say a completed ATV trail system in the region will be an important driver of tourism, a critical component of northern Minnesota’s economy. The state’s ATV account holds revenue from ATV registrations and ATV gas tax receipts. (SF 414)
