Bonding Bill Heard in Capital Investment

Even though a bonding bill must originate in the House, Senate Republicans have started to have hearings on a Capital Investment bill. The bill is similar to the one that failed to reach Governor Dayton’s desk on the last day of Session, with the exception of Southwest Light Rail Transit being omitted and the correction of several bill drafting errors.

In the past, Governor Dayton and transportation leaders have questioned some of the projects that are included in the bill and important projects that are absent from the bill. On Thursday evening, the Capital Investment Committee will hear from commissioners who will likely note the bill’s strengths and weaknesses relative to Governor Dayton’s priorities.

As a result of the proposal not originating in the House, and Governor Dayton/DFL concerns, its ability to earn the signature of Governor Dayton in its current form will be difficult.
