Two bills were heard in the Jobs and Economic Growth Finance and Policy Committee that would assist event venues and places that rely on ticket sales. These types of venues have been negatively impacted by the pandemic as capacity limits were put in place because of the nature of the pandemic. Minnesota has provided several rounds of economic assistance to small businesses, but to this point had not directly addressed these types of businesses that were directly impacted by social distancing and other limitations to protect the health of the public during the pandemic.
The type of help outlined in the two bills would provide direct business assistance through grants and tax breaks to qualifying businesses. The bill supporting entertainment venues was referred to Taxes. The proposal supporting event venues was laid over for possible inclusion in an omnibus bill. (SF 1935, SF 1419)
