Chairman Bobby Joe Champion Says Bipartisan Jobs and Economic Development Budget Clears Senate Finance Committee

Says Measure will Enhance Economic Growth Across State, Address MN’s Workforce Shortage

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Senate Jobs and Economic Development Committee Chair Bobby Joe Champion (DFL-Minneapolis) said his bipartisan Jobs and Economic Development budget bill was approved by a key Senate panel on Thursday when the Senate Finance Committee passed it.  Senator Champion said the measure maintains important funding levels while also including provisions to expand economic growth across the state and to remove barriers to developing the state’s workforce.

“The bipartisan budget bill passed by the Senate Finance Committee today maintains current funding levels in a tight budget environment, contains provisions from both Republicans and DFLers, and it reflects the jobs and economic needs of the entire state,” said Senator Champion. “It will generate economic growth at a time we really need it, and it will help remove barriers to addressing the state’s workforce shortage.  I look forward to it moving it to the Senate floor.”

Senator Champion said the budget measure was combined with the Senate Labor Budget bill and sent to the full Senate for consideration.
