Civics credits would be required for high school seniors

A bill to require a half credit of civics be taken in either the junior or senior year of high school was laid over for possible inclusion in the E-12 Omnibus bill. This would go in effect for students entering ninth grade this year. Concerns have been raised over the lack of knowledge many graduates have about our representative democracy. Since last year, schools are already required to administer portions of the United States citizenship test to students prior to graduating. (SF 1061)
