INCLUSIVITY AT THE CAPITOL
Black Entrepreneurs Day
We partnered with Black-owned business leaders across the state for the first ever Black Entrepreneurs Day at the Capitol. The day of action on capitol hill brought over 250 business leaders from all sectors including food, hospitality, education, housing, the arts, and more! This was an overdue coordinated effort that spotlights the needs of the broader Black business community.
The House & Senate hosted the first-ever bicameral Sovereignty Day, led by leaders of our 11 tribal nations. Legislators took part in tribal state relations discussions and learned more about issues greatly impacting our Native American communities. This was a historic observance and a significant step forward in strengthening relationships with all of our sovereign nations.
We joined the Muslim Community in learning more about the holy month of Ramadan by taking part in an Iftar meal. Legislators were joined by Governor Walz and several Muslim community leaders to teach us more about the Islamic faith and share a meal together.
MINNESOTA VALUES PROJECT
The Minnesota Values Project is a coalition of lawmakers, advocacy organizations, and legislative leaders who work in collaboration to advance our shared legislative priorities through thoughtful engagement and strategic planning.
The Minnesota Values Project (MVP) originated in the House back in 2017 in an effort to bring about more unity between lawmakers and key stakeholders. The coalition formed during a time of political turmoil impacting the nation. In the years since its inception, MVP has grown to encompass dozens of state legislators and advocacy groups impacting core issue areas including reproductive health, workers’ rights, education, healthcare, and more.
MVP played a critical role in securing us our wins this legislative session. Our coalition partners are an invaluable support and we look forward to creating more connections ahead of the 2024 legislative session. The 2023-2025 Minnesota Values Project agenda can be viewed here.
