DFL Leaders Update End-of-Session Negotiations

St. Paul, Minn. – Today, House Speaker Melissa Hortman (DFL-Brooklyn Park) and Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy (DFL-St. Paul) issued the following statement:

“DFL Majorities in the House and Senate remain committed to completing the work Minnesotans sent us here to do.

“Earlier today, Leaders Demuth and Johnson indicated they would provide the handful of votes needed to pass a capital investment bill in exchange for two simple things: total control of the legislative agenda and the return of partisan gridlock. Neither is acceptable.

“The DFL majorities have included the minority in leadership negotiations and on conference committees, three-quarters of which include Republican representation.

“Bonding and funding for Emergency Medical Services have been a priority for all four caucuses and the Governor, and an agreement on both those issues is within reach.

“Republicans have jeopardized the completion of important work by intentionally throwing up roadblocks and delays on the floor, in negotiations, and again today by attempting to score political points with the press and public. We appreciate the Republican leaders accepting our offer to meet, and hope they can come to the ongoing negotiations in good faith and with an earnest dedication to the best interests of the people of Minnesota.”

Erin Murphy represents Senate District 64, which includes portions of the Saint Paul community.
