Domestic Violence Victims Services

Legislation to provide startup funding of $100,000 for a group called Advocates for Family Peace received a hearing at the Senate Office of Justice Programs Subdivision, which is a subdivision of the Judiciary Division. Advocates for Family Peace provides services to victims of domestic violence.

Advocates for Family Peace is replacing a group called Range Women’s Advocates. AFP has been working in the Itasca County area for a long time, but when RWA had to close its doors, northern St. Louis County was left with no service provider for victims of domestic violence. AFP has stepped up to fill that role, but does not have the funds to adequately provide service to the area.

The startup funding appropriated in this bill is intended to fill the gap for AFP until it can apply for grant funding along with all the other victim service organizations in the next grant cycle. The bill was laid over for possible inclusion in the Judiciary Omnibus Budget Bill. (S.F. 1340)
