SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Duluth legislative delegation today issued the following statements on the passing of Duluth City Councilor Renee Van Nett:
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Councilor Renee Van Nett,” said Senator Jen McEwen (DFL – Duluth). “Renee was a powerful leader who served as the first Native City Councilor and Council President in Duluth and broke barriers for underrepresented members of our community. She embodied the spirit of public service, dedicating her life to improving the lives of the people of Duluth.”
“Renee was a strong leader and served as a vital role model for our community,” said Representative Jen Schultz (DFL – Duluth). She always brought her true self to the table and we all benefited. We will miss her. My sincere condolences.”
“Renee’s passing represents a heartbreaking loss for our community,” said Representative Liz Olson (DFL – Duluth). She was a passionate voice for Duluth and our entire region, and her groundbreaking contributions – including those as the first Indigenous woman to serve as council president – made an immeasurable impact and lasting legacy.
