Supporters of the Equal Rights Amendment rallied at the Capitol on the opening day of the 2022 legislative session this week. Despite being the 26th state to pass the ERA amendment in 1973, the amendment did not reach the required threshold of 38 states by a congressional deadline to become the law of the land.
However, the ERA reached the required threshold when Virginia passed the amendment in 2020. While discussions continue in Congress and the courts about whether the amendment is now ratified or not, advocates in Minnesota continue to push for equal rights in state law and the state constitution.
