Farm safety bills heard in agriculture finance

Bills with bipartisan support were heard in the Agriculture, Rural Development, and Housing Finance Committee this week that would promote farm safety. The bills are in response to tragic accidents that have occurred in Minnesota and all over the country involving grain bins. It is hoped the bills will offset some of the costs farmers would incur in Minnesota when upgrading the safety on their farms related to grain bins. Additionally, one proposal includes the continuation of the tractor rollover safety grants program.

Both bills were laid over for possible inclusion in a larger omnibus Agriculture, Rural Development, and Housing bill that will be developed over the course of the legislative session. (SF 3086) (SF 3007)
