Governor Walz to Deploy National Guard to Assist Clay County With Severe Blizzard Conditions

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Today, Governor Tim Walz deployed the National Guard to Clay County to assist motorists and residents amidst blizzard conditions. The severe weather has resulted in school and highway closures — including a stretch of I-94 between Moorhead and Fergus Falls. In response, Senator Rob Kupec (DFL-Moorhead), released the following statement:

“In light of the severe weather in Clay County, I am thankful for both the intervention of Governor Walz and the National Guard for responding to assist Minnesotans in my district — many of whom are stranded due to the blizzard. I urge all who can to stay home and to use extreme caution for necessary travel. Furthermore, I will continue to fight for proposals to invest in infrastructure built to withstand severe weather.”

Governor Walz’s executive order is effective immediately as heavy snow and strong winds persist in the region.
