Funding will Ensure that Construction is Expedited
SAINT PAUL, Minn. — Senator Grant Hauschild (DFL—Hermantown) today offered and passed an amendment to allocate $11 million for Highway 61 improvements in the Senate Transportation budget.
“The $11 million approved by the Senate today would help fill a budget gap for MnDOT to complete the Highway 61 project in an expedited fashion rather than spreading out construction over multiple seasons,” said Senator Hauschild. “Filling this budget gap will save our residents, businesses, and tourism industry from the challenges of a lengthy construction project on one of the busiest thoroughfares on the North Shore. My amendment cleared a key hurdle today, and I’ll continue to press for this funding to be included in the final Transportation budget.”
The amendment (SF 1722) passed on a bipartisan division vote, with 38 Senators voting yes. The Senate Transportation Budget Omnibus will now go to Conference Committee with the House. Watch Senator Hauschild’s comments about the amendment on YouTube.
