HIV on the Hill, a virtual rally for HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention, and treatment, highlighted legislative goals for this session to increase access to HIV prevention and treatment across the state. The rally was led by several HIV organizations determined to end HIV in the state of Minnesota. Speakers at the rally promoted several bills that are being introduced at Legislature, and how they hope to improve the lives of at-risk and HIV positive Minnesotans.
Legislative goals discussed included laws increasing access to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) medication as well as other preventative measures that will be introduced at the Legislature this session. The rally also featured testimony from members of the HIV community and other advocates who fight alongside them.
In addition to goals in the Legislature, speakers of the rally emphasized intersectional issues that they urge must be addressed in conjunction with the fight to end HIV. These issues include an increasing the minimum wage, equal access to education, ending the prison industrial complex, and expanding access to health care.
