House, Senate DFL Leaders Say GOP Rep. Robbins Deliberately Withheld Critical Information On Fraud from Lawmakers, Investigators

They Say Her Actions Put Political Gain Over Ending Fraud Against Minnesota Taxpayers

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy (DFL- St. Paul) and House DFL Leader Zach Stephenson released the following statements after learning that the House GOP Rep. Kristin Robbins withheld critical information on fraud from state lawmakers and fraud investigators for political gain.

Leader Murphy statement:

“It is maddening to learn that House Republicans are playing politics with the state’s response to fraud. Rep. Kristin Robbins, who claims to be leading the effort to protect Minnesota taxpayers is in fact deliberately withholding critical information for political gain. Fraud robs people of needed services and damages Minnesotans’ trust in government. So does what Rep. Robbins is doing with whistleblower tips. She has discredited her Fraud Committee, and she has discredited the House Republican caucus. For the last three years, Senate DFLers have driven solutions to fight fraud. We are looking for serious partners in that effort, a list that at this point does not include Rep. Robbins.”

Leader Stephenson statement:

“If Chair Robbins was actually interested in preventing fraud, she would be working with the very people who can stop payments to suspected criminals. This committee should be about solutions, not spectacle, but if the GOP did anything to solve the problem, they would have to stop using it to score political points. DFLers are outraged by fraud, and we want to ensure every single dollar is going to those in need. We’ll continue to work on solutions while the GOP continues their sham performances.”
