Human Services Reform hears bill to support families in the foster care system

Going through the foster care system can be traumatic for both children and adults. To help mitigate the hardship they experience, Senate DFLers have introduced legislation to grant $100,000 in the next three years to the Quality Parenting Initiative – Minnesota (QPI-MN). QPI-MN is a network of counties, community-based organizations, and individuals focused on improving foster care for all children, youth, and parents.

These funds will allow experts to help cultivate the best parenting experience possible by building the relationships between children, foster parents, birth parents, and relatives. The bill lets more children bond with their birth parents, and more foster parents will be able to learn important information about the children under their care, such as the child’s friends, their usual routine, and the foods they like and dislike.

Senate DFLers will continue to fight for answers to improve the foster care system for all involved. (SF 3720)
