SAINT PAUL, Minn. – A slate of four candidates for the University of Minnesota Board of Regents was recommended to pass in a joint hearing of the House and Senate Higher Education Committees on Tuesday night. The committee vote sends the board candidates to the floor of the full House and Senate for final confirmation.
The committee recommended Robyn Gulley in Congressional District 2, Mary Turner in Congressional District 3, Tadd Johnson in Congressional District 3, and Penny Wheeler for an at-large seat on the Board of Regents.
“The Senate and House Higher Education Committees worked together to ensure a fair and open process that encouraged bipartisan participation in the Regent Selection Process,” said House Higher Education Finance and Policy Committee chair Representative Gene Pelowski (DFL-Winona).
“This group of candidates brings a diversity of professional experience that will inform their perspective during their term on the Board,” said Senate Higher Education Committee chair Senator Omar Fateh (DFL-Minneapolis). “I am especially pleased to see an expansion of the presence of leaders in the labor movement advance to a final vote. The future of the University depends upon the Board acting to center the priorities of students, faculty, and employees, while holding leaders accountable to a high standard of transparency and fiscal responsibility. I look forward to seeing their nominations approved in a vote of the full Senate.”
