To the editor,
The last month at the Capitol has been an amazing learning experience. Each day I gain new insights into our legislative system and learn how I can best serve East Side residents. This session, I am honored to be Vice Chair of the Finance—Environment, Economic Development & Agriculture Division. As part of this committee, I review and approve commissioners working in environment and economic development. I look forward to bringing the diversity of the East Side to this committee.
Recently, I introduced two bills focused on funding for some of our community’s best known resources.
First, I have requested approximately $38 million to complete design, build, and equip the Metropolitan State University Science Education Center. Metro State plays an important role by providing flexible academic schedules and accommodating diverse learning needs. This specialized Science Education Center would expand the school’s resources and provide new learning opportunities that help students compete in the 21st Century global economy.
Additionally, I am seeking $500,000 in appropriations for the Metropolitan Council to grant the city of St. Paul funds for design and environmental improvements to Pig’s Eye Regional Park and Pig’s Eye Lake. This area has come a long way in the last 40 years. I am hopeful this money will further develop the Pig’s Eye Lake area so that it’s environment not only welcomes more wildlife, but becomes an outdoor destination for our community.
As we move forward, I invite you to reach out to me with your own questions and concerns.
