Majority Leader Murphy Honored by Minnesota Fire Chiefs Association For Protecting Critical Fire Safety Funds

Legislative Award Presented to Senator at Fire Station 7 in St. Paul Monday

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy (DFL- St. Paul) was honored Monday by the Minnesota State Fire Chiefs Association (MSFCA) for her work to stop the diversion of funds that support essential firefighting services and protect and train the state’s career, part-time, and volunteer firefighters.

“Being recognized by Minnesota’s firefighters, who literally put their lives on the line every day for people across the state, is a profound honor,” said Majority Leader Murphy. “It is easy to support the important work that our firefighters do because the high risk, lifesaving work they do is fundamental to the safety and well-being of Minnesotans and communities across our state.”

Majority Leader Murphy was presented with the MSFCA “Legislative Award” for protecting the integrity of the Fire Safety Account, which funds critical fire service components Minnesotans rely upon to stay safe.  The funds support the Minnesota Board of Firefighter Training and Education, Statewide Response Teams that include Hazmat, Minnesota Task Force 1 Urban Search and Rescue Team, and the Air Rescue Team, as well as the State Fire Marshal’s Office.  Majority Leader Murphy Led efforts to stop the diversion of funds from the Fire Safety Account to other purposes.

Leader Murphy received the award Monday at Fire Station 7 in St. Paul with more than a dozen MSFCA leaders and officials attending.
