Marriage Dissolution Bill Passes Committee

Under current law, courts may, but are not required to, issue a certificate of dissolution at the time a marriage is dissolved, and statute specifies what information be included on the certificate. This bill requires the court to create a certificate of dissolution, but grants the court the ability to direct an attorney or pro se litigant to prepare and submit the certificate to the court, and strikes the requirement that Social Security Numbers be included on the certificate but adds a requirement that a name change granted in the divorce be included on the certificate. This aligns statute with court rules.

The bill passed Judiciary Committee and was sent to the Floor. (S.F. 1539)
