ST. PAUL, MINN –As a way to support affordable housing, the Minnesota Housing Board has approved approximately $500,000 for Lakeshore Townhomes in Eagan. The grant will create 50 units of 1BR, 2BR and 3BR townhomes for people with incomes less than $32,920 and $37,035.
“As we continue to recover from the Great Recession, affordable housing is one of the best ways to help people get on their feet,” said State Senator Jim Carlson (DFL – Eagan). “This award is one way that we can be smart and effective with our resources. This will make it easier for many everyday Minnesotans to have housing security.”
The Minnesota Housing Board has approved more than $54 million for affordable housing across the state, which will create 1,904 units for families and individuals. The awards provide financing for affordable housing through deferred loans, amortizing loans, rental assistance and housing tax credits. Additionally, the award creates more than 4,000 supportive housing opportunities with people struggling with long-term homelessness.
“I’m grateful the Housing Board has recognized that we have a need for more affordable housing in Eagan and across the state. Hopefully we can ensure that every Minnesotan has secure housing in their future,” said Senator Carlson.
The announcement comes at a time when the number of Minnesotans who are cost-burdened in (paying more than 30% of their income for housing) in Minnesota remains high, and available affordable housing is scarce.
