St. Paul, Minn–On April 3 Minnesota Zoo workers brought a number of animals to the capitol to emphasize the important resource the Minnesota Zoo brings to the state. As a staunch supporter of the zoo, Sen. Clausen has been working hard to secure vital bonding money for the zoo in this year’s capital investment bill.
“The Minnesota zoo provides as much as $146 million a year in economic impact to the state with more than 1.4 million visitors,” Sen. Clausen said. “In addition to the great economic impact the zoo is for our state, the zoo is a learning institution, a conservation institution, it’s a destination for parents to take their children and learn about wildlife and conservation.”
The Minnesota Zoo has a significant backlog of repair and replacement projects the Sen. Clausen hopes will be addressed in the 2014 Bonding Bill. “I am hopeful we can finish the most critical of those projects such as the renovations to Discovery Bay and making essential infrastructure repairs,” Clausen said.

“We’ve got 1.4 million visitors annually to the zoo, they contribute 174 million dollars to the economy but beyond that it’s a learning institution, it’s a conservation institution, it’s a destination for parents to take their children and learn about wildlife and conservation”
