MnSCU Budget Request

Like the U of M, the MnSCU system has requested additional state assistance to help in its efforts to hold down tuition. However, negotiations at MnSCU between the administration, faculty, and other staff around the system’s future plan led to some issues announcing the state’s investment to the MnSCU.

Several of these ongoing issues were only recently resolved, and have affected the timeline for the legislation for MnSCU’s budget request. Below is their request for 2015:

  • MnSCU requested $142 million to achieve its goals over 2016 and 2017.
  • $108 million to cover contractual 3% salary increases.
    • $72 million of this would be used to replace a planned 3% tuition increase. This would freeze tuition for 2016 and 2017.
  • $34 million would be used to cover 3% inflation on operating costs.

Legislation to carry MnSCU’s budget request has not yet been introduced, but will be shortly.

STATUS: Awaiting introduction. (No Senate File)
