Reforming our criminal justice system

A newly formed bipartisan, bicameral criminal justice caucus held a press conference this week to announce their 2020 legislative agenda. Minnesota’s current punishment-focused justice system has failed Minnesotans, and the caucus is advocating for more effective, equitable approaches.

The 2016 Drug Sentencing Reform Act is a recent example of legislation aimed at reducing the number of nonviolent and lower level drug cases that sent Minnesotans to prison, and the legislators are promoting more policies that improve safety within our communities and invest in men and women who want to turn their lives around once they are release from prison.
