Republicans ignore cybersecurity as more critical threats emerge

Minnesotans are increasingly concerned about cybersecurity attacks threatening our IT infrastructure. Whether it’s private companies like Target and Best Buy, or state and local governments, these attacks are becoming more common and more preventable – if we make the needed investments. Governor Walz’s budget recognizes this and invests in cybersecurity grants to address these very needs, as well as funding to update State IT systems, but these ideas were completely left out of the Senate Republican State Government budget bill this week as it left the Finance Committee. In their place were more mandates on state and local IT systems without the funds needed to make them happen. (SF 3975)
