Rollback of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiatives at Target is Capitulation to Trump’s Politics of Meanness says Senator Scott Dibble

ST. PAUL, MN.  — Target Corporation has announced that it is rolling back or ending a number of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives at its company. It joins a growing list of American companies following the efforts of President Trump to end policies seeking to support LGTBQIA communities, communities of color, and other diverse communities. This decision represents a total capitulation to President Trump’s politics of cruelty and mean-spirited exclusion, said Senator Scott Dibble (DFL – Minneapolis). Target’s announcement comes four days after Trump’s inauguration and serves to bolster his first acts to eliminate policies that serve to include those traditionally underserved and enact new executive orders to marginalize and demean millions of Americans. Target’s announcement is similar in tone and spirit, using Trump’s language of inclusion and non-discrimination in describing policies that achieve the exact opposite.

“People across the country are watching in horror and fear as President Trump’s second term ushers in a complete reversal of years of hard-won fairness and opportunity for so many,” said Sen. Dibble. “Target has made itself clear. They believe that accommodating President Trump’s politics of cruelty, fear and resentment is more valuable than the dignity and wellbeing of many of their customers and employees.”

“This moment calls for all of us to stand up for our values, not to throw them aside.”
