Today, Sen. Greg Clausen (DFL – Apple Valley) applauds Gov. Walz appointments to two key cabinet positions. The first is the appointment of Jim Schowalter to replace Commissioner Myron Frans at Minnesota Management and Budget and the second the appointment of Brigadier General Shawn Manke to serve as Minnesota’s next Adjutant General – replacing Major General Jensen.
In response, Sen. Greg Clausen released the statement below:
“Both Major General Jenson and Commissioner Frans have served our state well. These two outstanding leaders have helped Minnesota through some of our most trying times – from the first full activation of the Minnesota National Guard during a global pandemic to bringing our state through some very difficult budget deficits. I thank them for their dedication and service to the state of Minnesota.
General Manke’s vast experience commanding soldiers, his deep regard and concern for National Guard members’ well-being, and his strong sense of dedication to public service gives him the right tools and balance to be a strong leader in his new role of Adjutant General. I give General Manke my full support and look forward to working with him.
Jim Schowalter was a great choice for Commissioner of MMB. He served in the same role during Governor Mark Dayton’s administration. He is a tireless public servant that helped lead the state out of a budget deficit to a strong surplus. He has a proven track record of understanding state budgets and providing guidance on how we can work together – no matter what party you are from – to balance Minnesota’s state budget. I look forward to working with Commissioner Schowalter to make sure our budget is balanced fairly while we invest in programs and services that move Minnesota forward.”
