Sen. Foung Hawj Celebrates Successful East-Side Cannabis Producer’s Forum

ST. PAUL, Minn. — On Friday, April 26th, Senator Foung Hawj (DFL – St. Paul) hosted an East-Side Cannabis Producers Forum.  Senator Hawj was joined by Senator Lindsey Port (DFL-Burnsville), Commissioner of Agriculture Thom Petersen, and staff from the Office of Cannabis Management, Department of Agriculture, and Department of Employment and Economic Development who explored the new regulatory framework for cannabis in Minnesota. Senator Hawj released the following statement to celebrate the event’s success:

“I was grateful and pleased to see high turnout and engagement at our first East-Side Cannabis Producer’s Forum. The Forum brought together legislators, agency staff and community members to share information and resources with our East-Side community regarding production and cultivation, licensing and application information, grant opportunities, and more. Attendees engaged in thoughtful discussion on the importance of ensuring that emerging opportunities in cannabis in Minnesota are inclusive to small growers and the BIPOC community.

“The forum was aimed at empowering local communities and learning how this new industry can serve as a catalyst for economic growth, social justice, and sustainable development. I am happy to say it was a success. I look forward to continuing these conversations in our community to ensure the development of this new industry remains accessible and inclusive to all.”
