Sen. Tomassoni comments on February forecast

ST. PAUL, MN – The February budget forecast announced today shows a projected budget deficit of $627 million for the years 2014-15. This is an improvement of $463 million from the November budget forecast that showed a projected deficit of $1.1 billion.
State Senator David Tomassoni (DFL-Chisholm) made the following statements regarding the new budget forecast numbers:
“The numbers released today are a positive reflection of Minnesota’s slow, but steady climb out of the deficit hole. We’ve been on a roller coaster of nearly-constant deficits for over a decade. We need to make some tough decisions now about Minnesota’s fiscal health so we leave a better state for future generations.”
“As chair of the Finance—Environment, Economic Development and Agriculture committee, I will be focused on creating sustainable solutions for these important budget areas. Over the next few weeks we will take another look at the Governor’s plan in the context of this most recent forecast and prepare our own budget targets. Minnesota’s economic recovery, security and growth of the middle class relies on our creation of a fair and responsible budget.”
