Saint Paul, MN – State Senator Patricia Torres Ray (DFL-Minneapolis) joined Governor Tim Walz and other advocates at a ceremonial bill signing today of her energy diversity bill. The legislation will help the energy industry overcome diversity challenges by encouraging utility companies to improve their efforts to diversify their workforce and strengthen their connection to more diverse suppliers.
As the Senate author of the legislation, the bill puts forth a model to review trends that have shaped employment in the energy sector along with the demographics of contractors and workers’ participation in the energy industry today.
Sen. Torres Ray released the statement below:
“I am excited about the opportunity the bill brings to help recruit and retain more women, veterans and minorities in the many different energy and utility fields. The utility industry is growing, and it needs more workers so I am hopeful my legislation will benefit the utilities workforce, provide good paying jobs for communities of color, and help the labor force of the future reflect the populations served by the utilities.”
