Senate Committee hears bill to legalize sports betting

A bill to allow organized betting on sports events and award shows was heard in the Senate Finance Committee on Thursday. This follows House passage of a similar bill with bipartisan support and opposition. The bill would limit sports betting to those over the age of 21 and physically located in Minnesota, establish a licensing, tax, and legal structure, and direct how state revenue received would be spent. Following passage of the bill from the Finance Committee, the bill was referred to the Rules Committee. (HF 778)
