Senate DFL Announces Formation of Select Committee on Federal Impacts

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Today, the Senate DFL Caucus is announcing the formation of the Select Subcommittee on Federal Impacts on Minnesotans and Economic Stability. This committee, unique in state history, will help communities prepare for cost increases and lost services caused by the budget bill passed by Congress, and understand how decisions made by Donald Trump and his cabinet will impact Minnesotans.

“This committee is the Senate’s recognition that the actions coming out of Washington are increasingly hostile to states, including and especially Minnesota,” said Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy. “From executive orders to tariffs, canceled contracts and withheld funds, we can’t predict what Trump will do next. What we do know is bad enough: the budget cuts Trump demanded will take healthcare access and food security from hundreds of thousands of us and explode budgets at every level, from the state to counties, hospitals, schools and households. We can react to what’s here and prepare for what’s coming, but only if we recognize the moment and get to work.”

“Preparing for our work in the 2026 session means reckoning with the impact of Donald Trump’s administration, and the Senate DFL Caucus is doing just that,” said Senator Lindsey Port, chair of the select committee. “In light of the chaos and devastation this government has wrought on Minnesota, in only its first eight months, we have begun to plan for the challenges and choices ahead of us. We would be foolish not to. We can’t fix everything Trump is breaking. But we have to recognize the unprecedented moment we’re in, and begin to find the best way through it for the people of Minnesota.”

Leader Murphy and Senator Port will be available this morning for media interviews on the announcement.
