Senate DFL Leader Melisa López Franzen (DFL-Edina) today released the following statement in support of Minnesota nurses who have voted to authorize a strike as they press for long-overdue improvements in working conditions and safety at hospitals across the state.
“Minnesota Nurses have always been on the front lines of keeping our communities healthy and safe. We know that without their heroic sacrifices during the ongoing COVID pandemic, the health and economic fallout for our state would have been much worse. They’ve also experienced a sharp rise in workplace violence that can no longer be left unaddressed.
These working conditions have pushed too many nurses to the breaking point, burning them out and causing many to leave the profession altogether. Our health care leaders need to hear them and address these concerns. I join with Minnesotans across the state who stand strongly with them as they push to improve working conditions and keep our state healthy.”
Earlier this year, the Senate DFL Caucus made the “Keeping Nurses at the Bedside Act” a legislative priority. The measure would help improve working conditions and workplace safety for nurses across the state.
