Senate DFL Leader Susan Kent on Governor’s Action to Mitigate COVID-19 Spread

SAINT PAUL, MN— Today, Governor Tim Walz announced state action to further mitigate the spread of COVID-19. The Governor has declared a peacetime emergency and a list of legislative proposals to better prepare the state’s health care system and provide relief to Minnesotans affected by COVID-19. In addition, Commissioner Jan Malcolm of the Minnesota Department of Health announced new recommended mitigation strategies for Minnesotans to observe in order to keep vulnerable Minnesotans safe. Below is Senator Kent’s response to the announcement.

“I’m grateful for the strong leadership demonstrated today as Governor Walz and Minnesota Department of Health Commissioner Jan Malcom announced further preparations to mitigate the spread of COVID-19,” said Senate DFL Leader Susan Kent. “The Minnesota Senate continues to work together on guidelines and contingency planning that align with the recommendations of the Minnesota Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. As elected officials, it is our responsibility to work with and for the people of Minnesota, and it is also our responsibility to preserve the health and safety of our neighbors, constituents, and staff as we move forward.”
