Senate DFL Leader Susan Kent Responds to Senate Passage of COVID-19 Public Health Planning Legislation

SAINT PAUL, MN— Today, the Minnesota Senate approved legislation to transfer $20.8 million in fiscal year 2020 from the general fund to the public health response contingency account for the response of a potential outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 virus and COVID-19. Funds will be used to coordinate response activities, conduct lab testing, and contract for needed services, staffing, personal protective equipment and other supplies for healthcare facilities.

“As the State of Minnesota continues preparations in responding to COVID-19, the passage of this public health planning legislation is a strong step in the right direction,” said Senate DFL Leader Susan Kent. “As elected officials it is our responsibility to continue working together in the best interest of the health and safety of Minnesotans, and that is what the public can continue to expect.”
